I have a keen interest in understanding my clients holistically.
This means that my therapeutic approach is based on the biopsychosocial needs of my clients
and entails working
hand-in-hand with other professionals to deliver the best care.
My knowledge and application of the mental health legislations
and other related legal and ethical guidelines ensures that I practice as an ethical and
competent psychologist.
The effectiveness of psychotherapy heavily depends on the therapeutic relationship between
the client and the psychologist.
Thus, my approach to therapy entails creating a secure holding environment that grants
clients the opportunity to explore their inner selves and their unconscious psychological
needs.
This entails exploring how early life events/experiences and relationships have influenced
the client’s view of themselves, the world and others.
In therapy, I collaboratively work with my client to identify patterns in their functioning
and empower them with the necessary skills to improve their quality of life.
This involves using different techniques from a variety of therapeutic modalities/theories.
I completed my master's degree with the University of the Free State. During my studies,
I was trained in various therapeutic modalities including psychodynamic therapy, REBT,
gestalt therapy, play therapy, solution focused therapy, and client centered therapy.
My training also involved attending multidisciplinary meetings at a psychiatric hospital and
offering psychotherapy to learners and students.
I completed my internship at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital and weskoppies psychiatric
hospital. During my internship,
I worked within the medical, psychiatric and clinical psychology units. I gained exposure
and experience in psychological assessments,
treating severe and complex psychiatric disorders, and training in systems therapies.
I then completed my community service with the Department of correctional services where I
offered individual psychotherapy,
psychoeducation, and group therapy to offenders.
I also gained experience in conducting risk assessments for the purpose of parole
evaluations.
